Thank you for this opportunity to comment on the Special Service Contract Committee’s funding recommendations for next year. I want to thank the Committee for the recommendation to fund the McPolin and Parley’s Park Elementary After school programs through the Park City Education Foundation (PCEF). I urge the Council members to support the Committee’s funding recommendation to fully support this vital program that provides care for 5-10 year old children after their school day ends and while parents are still working. The Afterschool Program ensures that all working families in our community have access to a quality afterschool program. The programs at all four elementary, middle, and junior high schools provide a rich experience in a safe and supportive environment. This includes homework help, literacy, science exploration activities, art, snacks, exercise and opportunities to engage with the community through key partnerships. In our pandemic reality, the Afterschool Program is more important than ever to address the opportunity gap in our community and schools that is increasing with an economic recession and healthy risks. Research demonstrates that expanding access to after school programs equates to higher graduation rates, improved academic achievement, and higher wages. Working families in Park City need the school-based Afterschool Program to provide a consistent, high quality, and nurturing environment for children after the school bell rings. These are 5-10 years old kiddos who should not be home alone. All children need a safe, healthy, educating, enriching, and affordable care after the school day ends. Our schools are the backbone for the community’s collective work and impact. However, our schools need additional support to ensure we offer ALL students opportunities to be successful and reach their potential. Thank you for your service on City Council and for your consideration of this impactful program.

Greetings and thank you for taking my comments regarding the after-school programs at Park City School District.
As a working parent with a child in the program, I have watched the program grow and evolve to meet the needs of our local families. The Park City School District’s after-school program is very unique and a crucial offering not available in the surrounding communities. It sets our community apart in meeting the needs of children and working parents. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my child is well taken care of while I am working and unavailable.
It is my sincere hope that council continues to fund this amazing program at the level recommended by the committee so that the positive bonds children have with the after-school staff and the peace of mind for parents may continue.
