Good evening council and mayor. I am writing as this issue concerns the affordable housing building in which I live. When all residents of Kings' Crown put in their application in late 2018, the prospect was exciting: establish a financial foothold in the community in which we live and work. Another aspect that was appealing and understood by all was the ability to create a community - 15 apartments with families and neighbors with which to connect. 8 affordable units, 7 attainable. As we moved in earlier this year we got to know each other and were eagerly awaiting for more of the units to sell, although that didn't happen. The price point was not appealing enough or restrictions to qualify were stringent, so many interested parties in a position to purchase an attainable unit were turned away.
At this juncture, I'm grateful the proposed amendment takes away the ability for nightly rentals to take place in the building, something that would dramatically alter the fabric of the building. I'd gladly welcome longer-term rentals, likely no less than 6 months to provide stability for all. A concern of mine is the precedent this change might set, allowing for the relaxation of restrictions on attainable units, as well as the changes introduced after the fact. There is not enough space in this comment box to go into the nuanced nature of this event, suffice it to say I hope we continue allocating resources towards more moderate income families to be able to live and work in our community. I appreciate the efforts both staff and CRH have put towards addressing this and recognize there is no perfect solution, and that I am not providing one either.
