I would like to voice my opposition to the painting of the political murals on Park City Main Street. It is not appropriate for this City Council to be allocating taxpayer funds to what essentially amounts to political advocacy. The murals cross the line between art and political speech and appear to lend support to the movement that promotes a number of radical ideas. This makes out Main street less welcoming to those who do not share these radical ideas, ruines the ambience of the small mountain town which people come here for, and does nothing at all to help the disadvantaged communities that it purpots to advocate for. The $15,000 spent on this pointless installation would be better spent directly helping those in need, especially given the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the community. We are a small mountain town. Instead of trying to outwoke activists in big cities and on the national level focus on taking care of your own community! None of the sitting council members has my vote upon their re-election.
I am writing to voice my enthusiastic support of the equity themed murals on Main St. I am proud of our community for elevating social equity to a critical priority - however, actions count more than works and these murals clearly show the world our commitment to social equity in a beautiful and engaging way. Bravo to our City Council and Mayor for putting our values into action. I applaud you.
I would like to voice my support, in fact, elation, at the public mural project on Main Street completed this weekend. Being silent in the face of injustice in effect means siding with oppression, and it is wonderful to see our town speak our values in declaring, boldly, that Black lives matter, that we value our BIPOC communities, and that we commit to redressing the histories and present of inequity that they face.
Our country, and therefor our local Park City community, is in the midst of a critical and pivotal moment in addressing racial and social injustice. The goal of the recent art installations on Main Street is to "celebrate diversity in the community, and create a public space to foster understanding and conversations about race and social equity." Park City is not isolated from issues of social and racial inequity. These murals were a great step forward in our community recognizing this reality and taking a stand in showing our City's values. I would like to strongly voice my support of this project and the City's participation in expressing a commitment to social justice and equity in our community. Voices of support often go unheard and as such, voices of opposition dominate the conversation. I feel it is important that the council hear directly that, for all of the voices of opposition that have been circulating in the last several days, there are is tremendous support for this project and the city's efforts. Thank you for standing up and showing the world that Park City stands in solidarity at this moment in time!
As Director of the Park City After-School program I see a direct impact everyday to over 450 students and their families! The main purpose of this request is to secure the financial support we need to provide the highest quality, academically supported, and engaging program for our students and their families. Everyday in our After-School program the children receive the skills they need to perform well in school, participate actively in their community, and develop the socio-emotional talents they need and want to become valuable members of our town. With your support we are able to offer families peace of mind that their children are in a safe, healthy and enriching environment throughout the year.
Thank you very much for your consideration of this important request!
Hi, my suggestion has to do with how public comments are managed by the city on the various applications / issues. I would like to suggest that all public comments provided on a specific application / issue (for example, a specific planning application, a specific city council issue etc.) are compiled into 1 separate appendix that grows over time and can be clearly identified in agendas. So in essence the same document would include ALL comments and grow over time. Right now, only recent public comments appear in such an appendix within the preparation packet. However, when an application / issue spans multiple meetings, past public comments are hard to find because they are buried in the previous meeting minutes thus largely ignored because time has passed and comments are hard to find. Compiling public comments in one single place instead of spreading them in minutes would ensure better consideration of the public's input, I believe. Thanks
Hello esteemed council members, I would like to ask for you all that you take a stand with me and other community leaders to significantly reduce rent in the apartments of Park City. I am well aware that your position does not allow you to lower rent yourself, I understand that ultimately it is up to the landlords. However, the pressure of your support and the voices of apartment residents might be able to get this done. Our immigrant community would thank any moral support.
As we learn more about the needs of those in crisis, one of the largest ones appears to be rent. There is a petition going around online encouraging landlords of large apartment complexes to consider reducing that cost for families. I recognize no law or ordinance could be passed to impact this, but a show of leadership in the form of a statement from our elected leaders would go a long way in highlighting the issue and applying healthy social pressure. Thank you!
