(A) Public Hearing (B) Possible Action
Hi my name is George Goodman - I live on 921 Norfolk Ave. My family has lived in old town for over 20 years and my wife’s family for over 30 - we have never seen anything like this where people would try to encroach on public spaces that run through old town and the precious small green space that we currently have for their own private gain.
Just to build a private garage and driveway under the guise of saving a parking space?...
It’s the green space that the kids that live in Old Town sled and play on - that animals walk up and down - and people use a safe passage between streets.
I strongly encourage you to decline this proposal as it benefits only one person or developer just to make them more money - using land that belongs to all of us. That we all have the right to enjoy and keep open in a town that’s growing more and more crowded.
Just look down the street to the north to see very similar houses with garages in the front of them.
I live in old town. I don’t have an enormous van or five cars because I live in old town. It doesn’t work.
To give someone use of the right of way for a private garage sets a dangerous precedent in old town.
However, I guess if you are going to approve this then put me down first on the list for a garage on the 9th street right of way on Norfolk on the uphill side of the street as well so I can have another parking space and make my individual house more valuable.
Proposed expansion of the garage design to extend into the City's 9th St. property seems like an allocation of "free land" to the property developer, which to my knowledge hasn't been offered to other home-owners in the immediate area. Can't the design include addition of a garage that is fit within the existing property boundaries? The design generally looks good and attractive, with this one fairy major concern/comment.
As owners of a home on the 900 block of Woodside, we ardently oppose the proposed encroachment into the 9th street public easement by a private builder. City representatives are responsible for protecting the unique charm of our Old Town neighborhood by ensuring that the very limited green spaces are preserved for public use.
I am against this proposal as it directly conflicts with the historical preservation and beauty of Old Town. I agree that we need to keep 9th st open for recreational use.
Hi - the applicant still plans to encroach on public land, which is not acceptable. We neighbors want to keep 9th street open for recreational use, free of private encroachments.
