Scenario 2b. Transit Lane on Lowell with South Lowell Bus Drop Off = the best option so far.
Besides exclusive lanes for buses, the Transit Center remains in its current location. In conjunction with realignment of Lowell and a fabulous gateway to PCM (per 1998 DA), scenario 2b can eliminate the traffic light at Lowell and Silver King Drive. The result allows space for the Parcel E building to spread out which escapes the towering monolithic structure on Parcel E and allows cascading roof lines down to neighbors. With added space on Parcel E from the realignment of Lowell Ave, options open for the helicopter pad.
Residents and their guests, resort visitors, and local businesses all heavily use the transportation center at PCMR Resort Center. The existing transportation center must be maintained for the following reasons.
• Reduce Park City vehicle traffic especially in the downtown area.
Because of the convenient location of the PCMR transportation center, I often leave my car in the parking garage and ride the Park City bus system. If the PCMR transportation center is removed, and replaced with a new transportation center that is not as convenient, then individuals will be much more likely to drive around Park City. Examples include 1) Downtown access: Rather than riding the bus downtown, myself and others would choose to drive our own cars and park downtown, and 2) Shopping: because the proposed location of the new center is too far away to walk, especially with groceries in snow and ice (this area is not heated pavement).
• Provide transportation for the 800 parking spaces planned for Parcel B.
The bulk of the parking spaces planned for the new PCMR base construction are on Parcel B. Parcel B is located directly across from the PCMR transportation center. Once those 800 cars are parked on Parcel B, the adjacent transportation center will encourage visitors to leave their cars parked and not drive around Park City.
• Protect the value of Resort Center homes and maintain existing businesses.
The existing homes and businesses at Resort Center have been in place since the 1970’s. The value of homes would be negatively impacted by removing the transportation center. Resort Center businesses would be hit with a direct financial impact, and as a result local business owners may be displaced.
