(A) Work Session and Public Hearing, No Action Will Be Taken
Dear Commissioners,
The July 21st Planning meeting will consider parking, construction phasing, and mitigation at the Park City Mountain Resort Base Parking Lots. Soil excavation, transport, dumping, and storage are a huge and inevitable component. Critical questions remain unaddressed by the applicant.
Is PEG’s soil sample data yet available to the Planning Commission and the public? This cannot wait until CUP.
How many samples were collected? Sadly, 8 to 10 samples, as reported by PEG, are too few.
How was the soil sampling done? There is a specific protocol to follow.
Which metals were investigated? What are the results? The lead can be associated with Arsenic, Antimony, & Cadmium.
Of the >350,000 tons, which excavated soils are designated for mountain storage? Hikers, bikers, and skiers will be impacted.
Which soils are designated for transport? Dust and diesel fumes will impact our town. Will haulage and dumping go to Tooele?
How will dust be controlled during excavation and transport? Park City codes require dust control.
Will Park City’s drinking water be impacted? Proposed excavation is within the PCMC Source Protection Zones.
What if analyses reveal toxic levels? Historical published data shows lead levels > 200 ppm and increasing down grade.
Lead exposure is a known human health risk from contact with lead in air, dust, soil, & water.
Thank you for your attention, Sherie Harding
