I’d like to thank the council for addressing this issue as I know there will be significant pushback from some that value the extra 30 second drive over the safety of our community. I for one think the speed limits set must reflect the city’s desire for increased pedestrian and bicycle usage. There are certain neighborhoods (Prospector and Oldtown) with narrow, unpainted and no sidewalk roads that must be lowered significantly to protect these goals as well as the most important aspect which is protecting our children! Please make bold changes to protect our community and slow the ever increasing traffic down.
Speed limits are most effective when they are credible. When the are not - a great deal of police enforcement is required to have any significant impact. A credible reduction in speed without persistent police ticketing requires visual and/or physical changes to the street in order to have the desired effect.
